Danish Anwar | Founder | Producer
Drawing from his extensive global travels & an unhealthy obsession with politics, award-winning comedian Danish Anwar’s material is often described as “smart”, “political” & “really, really funny”, sometimes without air quotes. Known both as a comedian with extensive range & a successful producer with a reputation for trendsetting ideas, he has appeared on CBC’s The Debaters, Winnipeg Comedy Festival (TV gala), Second City’s Fresh Meat, SiriusXM, and his shows have been covered by Global TV, Toronto Star, Globe & Mail, BlogTO, Metro Toronto. Rachel McKim | Producer
After winning an award at the 2012 LA Webfest for Outstanding Directing, the co-creator of the smash hit comedic web series Please Don’t Fire Me hasn’t let moderate success go to her head — or even near her line of sight. These days, Toronto native Rachel Elizabeth McKim keeps her fans somewhat engaged by releasing skits online as one half of the comedic duo Vic and Rachel, and performing sketch comedy as one of the founding members of Luxury Predators. When not eating canned ravioli and basking in the glory of her legendary single life, Rachel enjoys spitting hot fire, cycling for charity, and having naturally blonde hair.
Borana Makri | Producer
After growing tired of giving her jokes away for free at parties, to unsuspecting store clerks, and to strangers on the subway, Borana Makri recently started her comedy career at the tender age of not-very-young-at-all. Since then, she has been performing comedy and songs on her ukulele all over Toronto, regaling audiences with her misadventures and offering sage advice through love songs like a modern-day bard. Having hosted a number of shows in the past, Borana has settled into her new home at Piper’s Pub with her show “There Goes the Neighbourhood” – the only comedy show on the St. Clair West neighbourhood. Borana gathers the most talented comedians in the city and creates a vibrant and friendly community around her comedy shows. Every Wednesday at 8:30pm, come see a FREE show, enjoy Toronto’s vibrant comedy scene, and make some new friends.
Dave Burke | Producer
Born and raised in Halifax, Dave Burke moved to Toronto in 2013 to chase his comedic dreams. Since then, he’s performed at some of the city’s finest venues, and some of its leakiest basements. His unique and intelligent style of comedy can be seen at Yuk Yuk’s, Absolute Comedy, Vapor Central, Spirits, and other legendary Toronto comedy venues. He’s done stand-up at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre, and has even entertained Stéphane Dion at a show. After one of Dave’s sets you’ll want to see more (ask nicely, he’ll give it to you)! Dave produces Sensory Overload, Toronto’s coolest new stand-up comedy show. Sensory Overload features some of Canada’s finest comedians presented with a twist – the comedians can’t see or hear the audience! They’ll be blindfolded, their ears are plugged, and just to make sure they can’t hear you, we pump really annoying music to them through headphones
Will Noye | Producer
Since starting out on the venerable Stoned-Up Comedy show at Hotbox Cafe, Will Noye has become a regular on the Toronto stand-up scene with a high-energy delivery and an honest, confessional style.
A long time geek, Will embraced the cultural emergence of comic books and genre fiction, holding the first Nerdtopia Comedy show at The Silver Snail comic book store. Now a monthly show, you can find Will hosting Nerdtopia at The Social Capital Theatre, encouraging people to come out and “get their nerd on” with some of the city’s finest performers.
Always working to improve his act, Will now headlines the very same show he started out on, bringing new material to the Hotbox every Thursday.
